Radon Testing

First we would like you to know Radon is everywhere. We test the levels of Radon  for 48 hours to determine if further action will be required to keep your radon levels at the recommended level.

Radon is a cancer-causing radioactive gas. You cannot see, smell or taste radon, but it may be a problem in your home. The Surgeon General has warned that radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States today! If you smoke and your home has high radon levels, you’re at high risk for developing lung cancer. Some scientific studies of radon exposure indicate that children may be more sensitive to radon. This may be due to their higher respiration rate and their rapidly dividing cells, which may be more vulnerable to radiation damage.

  • The United States E.P.A.

has established the “action level” for deciding when you need to “do something” about the radon in your home, school, or work place is 4 pCi/l.

  • 4 pCi/l

is the level accepted by most states and US territories. Please keep in mind anything over 2 pCi/I is still highly recommended  to perform some form of  Radon Mitigation.

If the you the home buyer choose to test for radon, Skyway Property Inspections will leave a radon test running at the time of home inspection.  The radon test runs for a minimum of 48 hours. When the Radon Test is running, all doors and windows to the house must remain closed, except for normal exit and entry.  If the test is running in the basement, then the basement door must also remain closed.

Please keep in mind during the summer months, if the property doesn’t have air conditioning and is occupied it will be highly unlikely to  be able to perform a Radon Test. We can always schedule a Radon Test at a later date.
